Child Stars: Corrupting New Music

So today I went on Youtube. Since the change of the layout, one of the first things I alway look at (after the videos of my subscribers) is the popular video in the music section. Today, it was the video of an eight year old raping to Coming Home by Diddy – Dirty Money feat. Skylar Grey. The fact that this eight year old kid has 124,000 views tells me that I’m going to be hearing more about him. The truth is, I’m tired of hearing about all these child stars. I think that a lot of the are way to young to be even considered a record deal. Also, there are many artists/groups on Youtube that are so much better then a lot of these kids combined. And finally, I think that a part of the reason that some of these kids are becoming so famous is because their “cute” or “so hot” and people are looking past the music and only at looks.

The kid that I’m referring to is MattyBRaps. I mean, This kid is only eight years old and is managed by his father. I think that thats rather unethical, because he’s only eight years old and should be playing with friends, sports, and working on school and not trying to look for a major record deal. There are many example of child stars like Justin Bieber, Greyson Chance, Maria Aragon, and Rebecca Black, who i think should have waited a decade or so until they decided to seek out the opportunity. Unfortunately its to late for these stars to take back their fame, and will probably end up like half of the other child stars that have lost their ways.

Unfortunately, many of these child stars are getting all this attention, when there are many other artist on Youtube that are better than these child stars, and deserve a record deal more than these child stars because they are old enough to handle what comes with fame. A few example of these include The Shures, Tyler Ward, Alex Goot, and Jake Coco. These are just to name a few. Since people are obsessed with child stars, many musicians who are older, don’t get discovered.

One of the many reasons why these older musicians don’t get discovered is because of their looks. Children like this MattyBRaps, are “cute” because their young and people think they can make money off their looks. If you listen to the his cover of Ditty-Dirty Money’s song, you can tell that  most of the rap parts are clearly auto tuned. Most artist, even some of the older one, use auto tune and most of the raw talent is disappearing in the music world. People think that they can be a singer even if they can’t sing and somehow end up famous because of this.

In my opinion, new talent needs to be found of people over the age of twenty. These people can handle the pressure of fame and handle criticism. I hope that you guys take the time to look at the song that these artist that i have shown above made and leave a comment on some artists that you think should be a part of a record label.
