Beauty And The Beast: The New Aida?

January 15th, 2011 § 1 Comment

I know its been a while since my last post, but i have a new conundrum that i need thought, opinion and suggestion on, and probably will never get answers to.

Last year, at around this time, I was apart of my schools production of Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida. I played keyboard 3. Now I was pretty bad at it because i felt like I was sight reading the music all the time, and never really practise. It was soon revealed that This year we will be doing the classic Beauty and the Beast.  I wasn’t sure if i was even going to do it this year, but i decided that i would because i found out the I was on the “fantasy orchestra” (long story). When my music teacher, who is the musical director of Beauty and the Beast, asked me if i was going to do it this year i said i wasnt sure. And here is where the problem begins! He said that a student who is in the musical as the insane asylum keeper also want to play in the pit since his role is not that big. So i was given the part that he was on stage for.  There are many reasons why i am troubled:

  1. I only get to play like 5 songs
  2. I dont get to play any of the good songs

reasons why this is a good thing:

  1. Practise piano songs for exam/university/kawanis
  2. get to put it on my university application
  3. still apart of it

Although there are more pros than cons it still makes me angry because i dont get to actually be apart of the music, but a fill in.  What do you think?

  • Piano – 15 mins
  • Guitar – 0 mins.
  • Saxophone – 0 mins.

§ One Response to Beauty And The Beast: The New Aida?

  • Samantha Edgar says:

It’s true that your situation kinda sucks, but I think it’s going to be a good thing. You’ll be able to use the band as some of your practicing, and you’ll be able to stay in the play, but you’ll have time for yourself and for your university stuff.

    That’s just my opinion!
